UNIBANK since its launch in 1993 has positioned itself as an important partner to literary creation, contributing to establish or increase the notoriety of a great number of writers and their books.
Livres en Folie is an annual book fair created in 1995, on the initiative of UNIBANK and Le Nouvelliste. Held every year on Corpus Christi day (may-june), this book fair became one of the biggest cultural events in Haiti.
The first edition was held in Petion-Ville at La Promenade. With passing years this site became insufficient for the increasing number of participants. From La Promenade, Livres en Folie moved to Cercle Bellevue in Bourdon, and finally since past year this large fair once again migrates to a larger place, Parc Historique de la Canne à Sucre at Tabarre.
This annual event actually brings life to Haitian literature since it stimulates Haitian writers, living in the country and abroad to produce more to benefit from the event. To date, some writers have held book signings every year at the event since the first edition of Livres en Folie.
Attracted by rebates (close to 50%), participants in Livres en Folies are numerous and have the opportunity to increase their book collection at very low prices. Cultural events are also held during the fair : symposiums, conferences, workshops.
Along the way, the organizers have brought Livres en Folie to the 14 provincial towns where UNIBANK has at least one branch. Participants can buy all the titles available at the fair in Port-of-Prince at their local UNIBANK branch. Books can also be bought online through UNIBANK’s website.
Livres en Folie is the biggest book fair in Haiti. Thousands of people of all ages flock every year making it a very popular, rich and diverse cultural event.
